Lithology and Thickness
Clayey sandstone. In the Kurpin Fm, there is a rhythmic alternation of clayey shales, polymictic sandstones, and gray, yellowish, and greenish siltstones. The thickness of the suite is 500-1000 m. In subordinate quantities, there are interlayers and beds of polymictic conglomerates and gravels, locally the amount of these rocks significantly increases, especially in the upper parts of the suite. Gray limestone and dolomite interlayers and beds are not uncommon. Sometimes there are thin interlayers of silicites, as well as tabular bodies of acidic and intermediate effusives up to 2 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Kurpin Fm lies with an angular unconformity on various Paleozoic strata
Upper contact
It is overlain by multicolored conglomerates of the Permian Kumbel Fm with an angular unconformity.
Regional extent
It is widespread in the central part of the Turkestan region in the watershed part of the Turkestan Range (Mount Kurganak, upper reaches of the Rasraut River).

Fossils
In the limestone cobbles in the conglomerates of this suite, remains of Silurian, Devonian, and Carboniferous fauna are often found, including the Lower Moscow substage. In the lenses of limestones, shells of Late Moscow foraminifera Fusulina cf. dunbari Sosn. and remains of Late Carboniferous algae Epimastopora cf. piai Korde were found. East of the described territory, in the Kurpinskaya Suite, Late Moscow Fusulina cf. bocki Moell., F. schwagerinoides Depr., Fusulina elegans Raus. et Bel., F. typica Lee et Chen, as well as Late Carboniferous Tricitites sp. were found.
